Opening in 2021 after the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Sushi Bros saw that ZBS POS solutions played a significant role in mediating the effects of the nationwide labor shortage.

Sushi Bros is a Japanese restaurant that officially opened in Woodstock, GA in July 2021. They have a large menu with all-you-can-eat, a la carte combo and takeaway options providing sushi, hibachi and other Japanese delicacies to the downtown Woodstock area. Surrounded by schools, business parks and residential neighborhoods, Sushi Bros is situated in an area with an abundant customer base. The restaurant is about 4,400 square feet, with a total of 36 tables, and the dining area is spacious, bright and well decorated.

Sushi Bros is a new restaurant and faces the same challenges as any other newly opened or established restaurant. When it comes to contactless ordering, Sushi Bros utilizes ZBS's Table QR Code services and Online Ordering Platforms.

All industries are facing labor shortage, especially in the restaurant and retail sectors, businesses are struggling to hire staff. This problem only increased in the aftermath of the initial Covid outbreak and lockdowns. Now that quarantines have been lifted, consumers are more than eager to go out, have fun and spend money. This is the time for the restaurants to have revivals and increase in sales. So how can ZBS help restaurants to continue providing great and sufficient service with a significant labor shortage?

The ZBS Contactless Payment Solutions that helped Sushi Bros launch their budding restaurant.

Servers are an integral part of the restaurant workforce. Servers are the face of your restaurant and have the most communication and interaction with your guests. Your servers'  performance can make positive and negative impressions towards your guests' opinions of your business and their overall dining experience.

Since it is currently difficult to hire people and regulate their performance, why not automate a part of a server's work to your dine-in guests?

That is why we recommended our first solution, the Table QR Code service, to Sushi Bros.

Considering the layout of Sushi Bro's restaurant, we were able provide each table with a QR code menu. Customers can lessen the workload of their servers by scanning the QR code. Guests can read the menu via the QR code, place their order, and pay. It's the smoothest and quickest experience they could ever have! Not only that, drink refill services can also be operated by scanning the code and directly ordering from the phone. Servers would just mainly need to serve food, reducing their workload by 45% after using Table QR code services. Based on these statistics, this leaves more time for servers to focus on taking care of their valued guests. The demand for more servers in the restaurant has also dropped, with Sushi Bros used to needing 6 servers on duty before using the table stickers. Now they only need 3 servers in order to serve the entire restaurant.

Besides the Table QR Code Service, Sushi Bros also utilizes another contactless ordering solution; Online Ordering. There are many positive things that our ZBS online ordering platform brought to Sushi Bros since its implementation.

All orders received on our KwickMenu online ordering platform go directly to the merchant's POS system and Kitchen Displays. This saves you tons of time by eliminating the need to manually input  all online orders into POS system while reducing a majority of potential mistakes due to human error. In addition, all customers' information (name, phone number, email) are recorded into the merchant's POS account. When you update your menus and pricing, activities or holiday specialties, you can send all this information to all customers who previously patronized your restaurant with one simple click! That is it! It's such an efficient way to market your restaurant with zero cost.

On the topic of Online Ordering platforms, Sushi Bros cooperates with multiple online order platforms, including KwickMenu Online Order, Grubhub and Uber Eats. Since opening their restaurant, Sushi Bros has seen significantly more patrons via KwickMenu Online Ordering versus Grubhub and Uber as shown via the report graph below.

Besides comparing the ordering volume between the different ordering platforms, we can also take a look at the data reports after Sushi Bros activated their Online Ordering service. In the second month after opening, Sushi Bros' takeout rate was 39%, making Online Ordering a  significant part of the restaurant's income. As time passes, Online Ordering rates will continue to climb before eventually getting to a relatively stable rate.

After being open for four months, Sushi Bros' takeout rate reached 49%, which is close to half of the restaurant's income. At this point, online ordering and take out services have become such a big part of Sushi Bros‘ income source. Even better, their revenue also increased nearly 23% compare to when they have not yet activated any online ordering services.

Nowadays, Sushi Bros has evolved and combated of the troubles that affected them when they initially opened. ZBS regularly provides all merchants with the most updated version of all technology and solutions to ensure that all of our merchants have the latest and most advanced restaurant tech to help run their businesses.

We’ve all been there. You’re at your favorite restaurant. The food was great, the service was perfect, and you’re ready to pay. But then—you spot an extra charge on the bill. Maybe it’s a “3% credit card fee” or a “convenience fee” for paying online. It’s frustrating, right? If this has happened to you, you’re not alone. More restaurants and businesses are adding fees like these. They’re trying to cover the cost of credit card processing fees. Here’s the thing: Every time a customer pays with a card, a portion goes to card networks and payment processors. These fees might seem small, but they add up fast. For restaurant owners, it can really hurt your profits. So, what’s the solution? How can you cover these costs without upsetting your customers? In this blog, I’ll break it all down for you. I’ll explain the difference between surcharges, convenience fees, and cash discounts. I’ll also share tips on how to use them in your restaurant. Let’s be honest—running a restaurant is already a high-wire act, and the looming threat of tariffs is adding even more uncertainty to the mix. With Trump’s recent tariff laws and the potential for new ones on the horizon, the economic landscape feels like a ticking time bomb. While no one has all the answers yet, the predictions are clear: tariffs could lead to higher prices across the board, and consumers are likely to tighten their wallets. For restaurants, that’s a scary thought. The truth is, we’re in a “wait-and-see” phase. And one thing is certain: restaurant owners are bracing for impact. According to an Alignable survey of over 3,700 small business owners, one-third of independent restaurants expect sales declines if substantial tariffs are imposed on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico. The main fear? Tariffs will drive up costs everywhere, from ingredients to equipment, and consumers will become more cautious with their spending. Unfortunately, dining out is often seen as a luxury—one of the first things people cut back on when budgets get tight. So, what can restaurants do to prepare for this uncertain future? While there’s no concrete answer, there are strategies to help you stay ahead of the curve. Let’s dive in.
